controlled, bush-hammerretexturing treatment; restore skid resistance & reduce crashes in any weather
KLARUW SYSTEMS K190 machine has been designed specifically to restore skid resistance to existing natural aggregate road and runway surfaces. Klaruw’s controlled mechanical retexturing substantially reduces the risk of wet-skid loss of control incidents and associated casualties. 336 independent computer-controlled tungsten carbide tips abrade individual pieces of surface aggregate and also remove polished particles. Alternatively, where excess surface bitumen is an issue, the tips break into the surface exposing fresh material.
K190 machines can be used on any sound bituminous and cementitious natural aggregate surfaces in order to restore micro texture. Macro texture is also improved on certain surface types, depending upon the nature and condition of the surface. Adjustment of chisel impact pressure, variable width and working speed ensures accurate control. This high degree of control means that all aggregate sizes, different bitumen types and the degree of accelerated weathering required can be accommodated. Because all chisels in the machine can move independently, a consistent treatment to uneven and wheel-tracked surfaces is achieved.
Klaruw have been treating surfaces, mainly in and throughout the UK, since 1989 where some 20milllion square metres on a wide variety of surface types and for many different pavement-maintaining authorities has been undertaken.

OBJECTIVES:
- Improve surface friction, skid resistance and provide mechanical key for material overlays, by:
- Restoring micro texture - Restoring macro texture (on some surface types)
MARKETS:
- Roads - all clases and most material types - Runways - most material types including open textured friction course and asphaltic concrete - Industrial areas - Harbour areas - including block paving - Race-tracks
FEATURES:
- Restoration of micro texture (and macro texture on some surfaces) - Retexturing can be carried out full-width (usually between carriageway markings) with consisent results, without treatment overlap and also in the wheel tracks - Localised weak areas can be avoided - Can be undertaken in any weather conditions - Repeatable & cyclic - Environmentally friendly; no new materials involved, effectively recycling and extending the life of existing surfaces - Potentially up to 90% reduction in carbon footprint compared with material based alternatives
TECHNICAL ASPECTS:
- Treatment width: adjustable from 270 to 1900 mm - Working speed: adjustable from 0 to 20 m/min - Traction: hydro-static - Steering: all wheel steering; both axles independently - Power: 300 kW
KEY BENEFITS:
- Helps meet Government's safety targets - Cost effective - Extends surface life - Involves NO materials - An any weather process - Controlled & consistent - Repeatable & cyclic - Causes minimum disruption - Energy efficient - low fuel useage & carbon emissions - Assures well maintained skid resistant surfaces
